In brief: In February 2024, ahead of the Paris Olympic Games, the Provence Nemrod shooting club in Allauch (Bouches-du-Rhône) renovated 500 m² of shooting range space to host the French national shooting team as they prepared for the Olympics. MOSAIK-FLOOR installed light gray, smooth PURE ULTIMA INDUSTRY PVC tiles, which were snapped into place over three days by two installers on top of old checkerboard-patterned tile and raw concrete, to eliminate the visual distraction caused by the black-and-white floor.

The Initial Need

The Provence Nemrod shooting range had an old black-and-white checkerboard tile floor, worn and cracked in places, with sections of exposed concrete extending beyond it. For a competitive shooter, this checkerboard pattern is a real problem: a strong, repetitive contrast at the bottom of the field of vision, distracting reference points, and eye strain during long sessions. The club was set to host the French national shooting team as part of its preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics: they needed a neutral, uniform, and clean floor that could be installed quickly, without breaking the existing tiles or closing the range for an extended period.

The Selected Solution

The 7-mm ULTIMA INDUSTRY slab in the smooth, light gray PURE finish clips directly onto a mixed substrate—including damaged tile and concrete—without the need for leveling compound or adhesive. In the PURE grade, the light gray is perfectly uniform and matte: no pattern, no glare—a floor that blends seamlessly into the background. Two MOSAIK-FLOOR installers laid the 500 m² in three days, including cuts around posts and shooting stations. The stand reopened immediately, ready for the French national team’s training sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Construction Project

Why replace checkerboard-patterned tile in a shooting range?

The black-and-white checkerboard pattern created constant visual distraction in the shooters' field of vision: high contrast, distracting landmarks, and eye strain. A uniform light gray floor eliminates these distractions and allows the eye to focus on the target.

Can PVC flooring be installed over both damaged tile and bare concrete at the same time?

Yes, with a click-lock installation: at Provence Nemrod, the 7-mm ULTIMA INDUSTRY tiles were installed using the click-lock system directly onto a mixed subfloor—consisting of old, damaged tile and raw concrete—without any leveling compound or removal of the existing floor. The 7-mm thickness accommodates common surface irregularities.

How long does it take to install 500 m² of ULTIMA INDUSTRY slabs?

Three days with two MOSAIK-FLOOR installers, or approximately 80 m² per installer per day, including cuts around posts and shooting stations.

What kind of flooring is best for a sport shooting club?

A uniform, matte floor with no pattern, durable enough to withstand heavy foot traffic, and easy to clean: the ULTIMA INDUSTRY click-together PVC tile in light gray PURE meets these criteria and can be installed without closing the club for long.
