Dax Arena: Stage covered with MOSAIK INTENSE performance tiles ahead of the concerts

Use Cases

Dax Arena: 850 m² of floor panels to protect the ground during concerts

  • Client: City of Dax
  • Industry: Events
  • Area: 850 m²
  • Location: Dax , Landes (40)
  • Completion date: June 2022
  • Service: Tiles supplied by MOSAIK-FLOOR; installation performed by city hall staff
  • Starting surface: Sand (arena track)

Constraints

  • The sand surface of the arena must be protected throughout the summer
  • Thousands of spectators standing during the concerts
  • Stage Setup and Operation of a Telescopic Handler

Solution

  • MOSAIK INTENSE 40 mm paving slabs, 40 t/m²
  • Load-distribution plates placed directly on the sand
  • Removable and Reusable Event Floor Protection

In short: For the 2022 summer concert season, the Dax City Council protected the sand surface of its arena with 850 m² of 40-mm-thick MOSAIK INTENSE flooring panels, supplied by MOSAIK-FLOOR and installed by city staff in June 2022. These load-distribution panels support the stage, staging equipment, and thousands of spectators: event flooring protection that can be dismantled at the end of the season.

Dax Arena: Stage covered with MOSAIK INTENSE performance tiles ahead of the concerts

The Initial Need

Every summer, the Dax arena hosts concerts attended by thousands of spectators. The sand track must remain intact for the arena’s other uses: City Hall was looking for an event-grade floor protection system capable of withstanding the impact of the crowd, stage setup, and the movement of handling equipment, while providing a stable and walkable surface.

The solution chosen: running boards

In June 2022, 850 m² of MOSAIK INTENSE load-distribution panels were installed directly on the sand by staff from the Dax City Hall. Measuring 40 mm thick and capable of withstanding loads of up to 40 metric tons per square meter, these load-distribution panels spread the weight of the stage, the telehandler, and the audience over a large area: the sand does not become rutted, and the ground remains level and slip-resistant.

Reusable event floor protection

At the end of the season, the panels are unclipped, stored, and reused the following summer: the track is left with its sand intact. This same ground protection is suitable for festivals, outdoor trade shows, sporting events, and construction site access points—whether on grass, dirt, gravel, or sand.

This Project by the Numbers

  • 850 m² of MOSAIK INTENSE 40 mm tiles, or approximately 1,250 tiles with a usable area of 0.68 m² each
  • Strength: 40 metric tons per square meter
  • Thousands of spectators per concert
  • Installed directly on the sand; reusable panels

Frequently Asked Questions About This Construction Project

Can you lay down paving slabs directly on sand?

Yes: At the Dax arena, the MOSAIK INTENSE running surfaces were installed directly on the sand track, without any preparation or fastening.

What is the purpose of a distribution panel under a stage?

It distributes the weight of the stage, equipment, and audience over a large area to prevent the floor from caving in. MOSAIK INTENSE panels can withstand up to 40 metric tons per square meter.

Is event flooring reusable?

Yes: The panels can be removed at the end of the summer and stored until the following season. They come with a 20-year warranty.

How many paving slabs are needed for 850 m²?

Approximately 1,250 MOSAIK INTENSE tiles, with each tile covering 0.68 m² of usable area (100 x 68 cm).
